Second wave of films announced: anime!
Three films have been added to the WFAC 2010 lineup, all from Japan.
First: the creator of the outstanding The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (closing film, WFAC 2007) confirms his talent with an even more creative and thought-provoking film, Summer Wars. Science fiction in the best tradition of science fiction, the film humourously imagines a world of social networking and virtual reality gone awry when a malicious hacker breaks into the Facebook OZ network and starts stealing personal data.
Second: the contentious and obscure religious film Buddha Saitan (Rebirth of Buddha), produced by a religious sect, reminds us of the power of storytelling in animation. Sans its pedigree, the film is remarkably sensitive and carries some powerful themes.
Third and not least: return to the familiar western desert world of Vash the Stampede in Trigun: Badlands Rumble. A romping western, anime-style.
All films will be exhibited at the Festival’s theatre at 137 Ontario Street North, Kitchener, Canada.
