Summary

An old woman is spinning yarn. She is overcome with tiredness and gradually gets spun into the yarn. A neighbor then knits this yarn into a jacket. The womans son, who recently lost his job at the factory, stands at the factory gates in the cold handing out leaflets to his former colleagues. The neighbor tries in vain to sell the jacket to the factory workers, but nobody can afford to buy a new jacket. A bitterly cold winter freezes the town. Based on a short story by Kobo Abe.
