I have been keeping an eye on Wonderful Days since I first heard about it a few months ago. Did not expect to have a chance to see it for a long time, though.

Just so you guys know how incredibly cool it is to have a chance to check this one out on the big screen. Isn't it opening in Korea in April? Either way, I am impressed. Thanks again.

Come and pay us a visit for this international premiere. We think that it'll be a worthwhile visit, to put it mildly.

But, the thanks should be given to Tin House, the incredible artistic talent behind the film. We will talk about them in our printed film guide - details coming soon.

Although some portions did seem very familiar (the setting reminded me of Gunnm or Final Fantasy 7, the music selection and Shua's character design reminded me of Cowboy Bebop), I was quite pleased with the overall movie. I drove over 3 hours to get to Waterloo specifically to watch this film, and I am certainly glad I did.

Also, I wrote a short review here: http://lister.acm.wwu.edu/~sothis/phpBB2/v...p?p=26909#26909

for those of you who were there i asked why you picked waterloo

and i thought it was amazing. and of course everything seemed like it was from another country, they produced allot of anime for other countries so i was not surprised to see some of it. I thought the story was a little to cloudy and not fully explained. ( well if you did not get the history like we did )

and about the setting i thought it deffinetly had a final fantasy feel for it (not the movie but the games)

It has been our privilege to work with Tin House to make this screening possible.

The WFAC was able to bring the excellent technical expertise of the Waterloo region together with the wonderful artists at Tin House. We had a world-class presentation for this world premiere. Christie's projection technology is state-of-the-art, and their new 2K2 imager is even better still; the tireless folks at Dynamix made the festival possible.

The story is a strong point of the film. There is a certain grace and elegance with which various plot elements were handled and introduced. No ham-handedness here; the TV series plotline synopses have been written, and you'd be surprised how it's already been tied to the film. Final Fantasy feels old, like a video game; Wonderful Days is a lovely, sophisticated film. Being well-read on Gaea Theory will help you understand how nice the basic premise is.

For you anime freaks out there, Tin House isn't exactly new to the anime scene and to big anime productions: they're doing Macross Zero.

QUOTE (Guest @ May 2 2003, 16:23)
I loved the film.  It did feel a little familiar at times, I was disappointed that their story and characters were not as innovative as their use of technology.  It was one of the most beautiful examples of animation I have ever seen, and I can't wait to see what Tin House does next, now that they have proven to the world that they can put out top notch animation.

whoops, that one was from me but I forgot to sign in

To Heung:

Your English is far better than our Korean.

The film is indeed well worth watching. The people of our festival seemed to like it very much. Please do watch this film when it opens in July in Korea.

To Guest:

Yes, it uses very nice digital compositing. Some scenes are more obvious than others - I wonder how many people know the level of miniatures used in the bar scene? We wished we could have played the miniature-making work for our audience. When we have full Internet bandwidth, we will upload some video to our server.

Absolutely true. One reason for having the Festival is that animated films really benefit from having a full theatre presentation, and the Festival is an opportunity to see these in a theatre.
